Membership is free and available to all Victorian residents - proof of
identity and current address is all that is required. Borrowers of all ages
are welcome, with those under 18 requiring a parent or guardian to provide a
signature as guarantor.
...choose from our great range
Our Library has a large collection of materials for all ages. Large print
books, talking books (on cassette and CD), magazines, videos, non-fiction CD
ROMs, and an extensive fiction and non-fiction selection are available for
loan. We welcome your requests for particular books and other items, as many
additions to the collection are based on borrower suggestions.
...get the answers you need
A range of information is available for use in the branches, and qualified
librarians know how to find just what it is you're looking for. Reference
resources exist in print and electronic formats, including internet and CD
ROM.
...take
it home
The standard loan period is three weeks, with no limit to the number of items
you can borrow at any time. If you would like to have them for longer, you can
renew items in person, by phone or over the internet (provided another
borrower has not reserved the item). If an item gets lost or damaged a
replacement cost is charged according to the item's value. Late returns
attract a fine of 20 cents per day (with no fines on Junior Fiction).
...use
the internet
All four branches provide free public access to the internet. Users under 18
need to have signed Parent/Guardian Declaration lodged before using the
internet for the first time.
...find
it in the catalogue
Our Library's
full catalogue can be accessed either in the branches or from home, via our
website. Just click on the menu item at left, or
click
here. This allows you to search for items, renew materials you have on
loan and reserve items on loan to other borrowers.
...become
an expert
Orientation and
information sessions are designed to help you feel at home in Our Library, and
are run on a regular basis. Classes are also available in getting to know the
internet, tracing your family history and more. Check with your local branch
for details.
...find
great stuff for kids
Young borrowers can
take their pick from picture books, easy readers, CD ROMs, talking books,
stories, videos, subject books and magazines. Specialist librarians provide
assistance to children and parents in selecting material to take home. Each
branch conducts Storytime for pre schoolers as well as after school activities
for children of all ages. Toy Libraries operate from Hastings and Rosebud.
...and
teens
Each branch has a
teenage fiction section with titles of special interests to young adults.
School visits are welcome and a variety of activity programs operate
regularly.
...experience
something different
Interesting
activities and guest speakers from all walks of life feature in Our Library
throughout the year. Author talks and Book Discussion groups are regular
features, while special events include Library Week, Children's Book Week and
the National Simultaneous Storytime. Ask at your branch for details of coming
events and how you can be involved.
