Home Library Service

Our Library offers a special home delivery service to help enrich the lives of people who are housebound.

The Home Library Service offers free deliveries of library materials to residents of the Mornington Peninsula Shire who are physically unable to visit Our Library due to illness, frailty or disability.

This special service provides items from our quality collection of :

  • Books
  • Large print books
  • Talking books (CDs and Play-a-ways)
  • eBooks and eTalking books
  • Magazines
  • DVDs
  • Music CDs

We aim to match a Home Library Service customer with a volunteer who lives in their local community so we can offer a friendly, personal service. We can also answer requests for information and search for special titles.

Benefits for our Home Library Service user

  • Longer loan periods (up to six weeks)
  • No fees or charges for Library members who are housebound
  • No fees or charges for Library items borrowed from other library services

Who can join?

The Home Library Service is available to residents of the Mornington Peninsula Shire who:

  • Are unable to visit their local library due to illness, frailty or disability
  • Have no one in their household who can visit the library for them
  • Residents of aged care facilities and supported accommodation.

Apply for the Home Library Service

If you are interested in receiving the Home Library Service, please contact the Home Library Service Coordinator on 0408 680 883 or email homelibraryservice@mornpen.vic.gov.au.

Family support

Our Library also offers Home Library Service members the ability to nominate a family member or friend to borrow on their behalf. We can support the family, friend or carer who can choose and deliver library materials in place of the library volunteer.

The same membership considerations will apply to customers who are housebound and who take up this option.

Volunteer

The Home Library Service Volunteers select and deliver books and other materials from our collection each month.

Volunteers are offered training and ongoing support and are matched, where possible, to people living in their local community. All volunteers are required to undergo a Police Check and a Working with Children Check.

Mornington Peninsula Shire recognises the important contribution volunteers make to our community. We value the link volunteers can make by choosing to visit residents who may be isolated.

For more information please contact the Home Library Service Coordinator on 0408 680 883 or email homelibraryservice@mornpen.vic.gov.au.
