ECO: Engaging Communities Online - stage 1
update: check out the photos from the launch

The staff at Our Library are hard at work leading up to the much awaited ‘Engaging Communities Online’ (ECO) Project due to be launched on Tuesday 1st July at the Mornington Library.

The project, funded by Mornington Peninsula Shire, aims to raise community participation and increase access to information technology and learning within the libraries for children aged 4 - 12. It seeks to address the issue of limited resources in the provision of public access technology facilities.

New equipment such as internet ready PCs, educational software and recreational game stations have been purchased to facilitate the community learning process. In addition, Hastings, Mornington, Rosebud and Somerville Library will be equipped with new desks and seats, revised work space and a revamped Technology Centre located at Rosebud.

Public libraries are essential to improve literacy skills in the community and this initiative is a great example that brings children and adults together to improve skills and learning through fun and educational activities.

As part of the recent renovations, Somerville library now has a new look and feel as well. There is a little bit more work planned here, so stay tuned!

Don't forget to check out the new kids online facilities - while not all are available today, they will all be up and running soon!
