Port Phillip Paddle Steamers - Mornington Library

Weerona_small.jpg

Recommended for adult audiences

From the latter years of the 19th Century until the Second World War, one of the most popular excursions from Melbourne was the voyage from Station Pier to Mornington, Dromana, Sorrento or Queenscliff on a Paddle Steamer. The largest and most popular were the Ozone, the Hygeia and the Weeroona.

The age of Paddle Steamers on Port Phillip is now long gone, but their stories are still immensely interesting. Please join us and the Peninsula Ship Society to learn more about these luxurious vessels and why they are still so popular.
