Home Library Service
A Home Library Service is available for eligible residents of the Mornington Peninsula.
Our Home Library Service Coordinator will work with our volunteers to provide a service that will suit the individual interests of the borrower. Our volunteers will arrange suitable times and days to meet their borrower to discuss their preferences. Volunteers will usually arrange visits that suit both borrower and themselves.
Residents who are currently eligible to access the Home Library Service include:
- Those who are no longer able to drive or who have mobility issues.
- Those who are unable to visit a library due to ill health or disability.
- Those who are temporarily or permanently housebound.
- Those who have care giving responsibilities.
Borrowers can select from a range of items within the collection including Books, Large print books, talking books (CDs and Play-a-ways), eBooks and eAudiobooks, Magazines, DVDs and Music CDs.
The Benefits for our Home Library Service borrower include:
- Longer loan periods (up to six weeks)
- No fees or charges for Library items borrowed from other library services.
Would you like to Volunteer?
Our Home Library Service volunteers offer a free, friendly, and personalised service to eligible residents of the Mornington Peninsula. As a Shire Volunteer you will be required to complete mandatory checks including Police Check and Working with Children check. You will be provided with training and support. You are then connected to a borrower with similar interest and supported in establishing an on-going connection. This connection reduces social isolation and loneliness, fosters friendships, and provides a positive relationship for both borrower and volunteer.
Home Library Service Borrower testimonial: “I’m so grateful for the Home Library Service that’s offered by the Mornington Peninsula Shire. It must be at least 5 years that I have had the same wonderful Home Library Service volunteer coming to my home every week. Who would have thought that through this amazing Service not only has a wonderful service developed but I have been guided in many different directions with my scope of reading material. I would recommend the Home Library Service to others in the community”.
