Our Libraries are very excited to be part of the BIG Summer Read Program in partnership with Public Libraries Victoria and Bolinda Borrowbox. This incredible program will make reading fun by mixing reading and games to help to foster a lifelong love of reading in youth and teens. It's pretty simple, the more children read, the more chances they have to win prizes.

The BIG Summer Read aims to keep children reading over the summer holidays to stop the loss of literacy skills.  It is estimated when children take a break from reading, they lose between two to three months of reading proficiency.

To enter the competition, you must be a member of the Mornington Peninsula Libraries and be under 18. Click here for full terms and conditions.

The following will be awarded for ages 0-8 and ages 9-17

1st prize- Family pass for 2 adults and 2 children to Enchanted Adventure Garden (Valued at $120)

2nd prize - $50 voucher from Farrells Bookshop Mornington

3rd prize - Children's book pack

How it works

  1. Download Beanstack app
  2. Both parents and children sign up to Beanstack to register for the competition. The Beanstack app will record the books the children read and track progress.  If your child is under the age of 13 you will need to permit them to register.  As a parent you can manage your families reading progress under one account.
  3. Get Reading, between 1 December and 31 January 2022. Each child who registered is encouraged to read 10 books and complete a series of challenges.
  4. Once they have finished 10 books they can come to a library branch to receive their  Big Summer Read prize bag  (whilst stocks last )and be entered into the major prize pools.
  5. Each additional book finished gets a bonus entry.
